SWEET MEMORY LANE

Image
What a special day! Yesterday, I got to spend the whole afternoon with one of my very best friends. My sister and I have always had a special bond. Growing up, we argued and fought just like most siblings, but we were still so close. I was worried that bond would fade away once we both became adults. I've seen it happen so often, even within my own family. But honestly, we've become even closer in our later years. I know I have a forever friend I can always count on in Jill. Jumping on a trampoline doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would flood your mind with memories, but that is exactly what it did. We reminisced on the good times we had in our backyard 10+ years ago on Sundown Pass. We played so many crazy, made-up games (Dead Man, Races, Crack the Egg) on that trampoline. It's a wonder we didn't fall off and break our necks. We laughed and talked about how big the trampoline used to feel to us and how we're like giants now.  The sw

ALL OF HEAVEN WILL BE THERE

Today I had the privilege of preaching in my grandmother's funeral. To be honest with you, my mind is tired. We knew late last week that MawMaw was getting close to the end of her time on earth. The weekend was filled with a shower for Seth and Stephanie (they are getting married in May), preaching on Sunday, and nearly-constant thoughts about an impending funeral.  Monday brought the news we expected- Katye Jo was likely heading home. Shelby and I cut our day short and headed to RMC. Thankfully, we were there most of the afternoon. We had just left and picked up Thomas from school when MawMaw went to glory. She died at 3:24 PM Monday afternoon.  As much as I wanted to be there, I'm thankful that we were able to go get T. Dad and Mom were able to be with MawMaw in those last few moments. What sweet moments they were! All four of her children gathered around her bed and sang her favorite hymn- "In the Garden." As their voices sang the last notes of that ol

NO CAVITIES

After "Spring Breaking" all day, and by that I mean, watching Fixer Upper and eating corn dogs on the couch, Ben and I took a trip to our new dentist, Dr. Picard. Now, I've been going to the same dentist since I had teeth. Shout out to Dr. Cunningham in Jacksonville. I highly recommend him if you live in the J'ville or Anniston area. But living in Talladega County, we had to find a local dentist. I must admit, I was nervous about the report that would come. I had been told before my wisdom teeth were removed that I had cavities in both of my back molars. After my cleaning and visit with the doc, I received a great report with those two words all dental patients want to hear: no cavities ! Upon leaving the office, with Ben boasting about his "healthy mouth" and I about my teeth being in "pristine condition," we proceeded on to the ice cream parlor to celebrate our lack of cavities with mouths full of frozen sugar. Happy Tuesday!

AND HE WALKS WITH ME

Death isn't something that I've been well acquainted with in my lifetime. I know I'm blessed to be able to say that. Our earthly bodies are shells in which we simply inhabit this place for a short time. Today, March 20, at approximately 3:24 pm, my sweet husband's grandmother went to be with the Lord.  After many months of sickness, she is finally able to breathe easily in the presence of the God of the Ages. It's our human nature to be saddened by events such as this, but we should rejoice in the assurance of salvation we have through Jesus.  What a beautiful final moment Mawmaw's four children were able to have with her before she left this earth, singing one of her favorite hymns. But be assured, my friends, Mawmaw is looking at something even more beautiful today, the face of our Heavenly Father.  We love you, Mawmaw.

FIRST BLOG POST

Well, it's finally happened, people. We started a blog. This should be fun! I'm not always great at expressing myself with spoken words. As I often say, I'm really bad at telling stories. I hope you enjoy following along with Ben and me. We have a crazy, hectic, beautiful life.
