BEACHES AND BAPTISTS

Image
May is a crazy month for all who have chosen the field of education. Kids be cray. But I made it through my second year of teaching small humans unscathed. Thank ya, Jesus. So far, June has been no less crazy. We took our teenagers to PCB for a joint youth camp with Iron City Baptist. Seeing our teenagers respond to the truths of Scripture is nothing short of amazing. They truly understood the depth of the passages read from Philippians throughout the week. Plus, I just love spending time getting to know our girls on a deeper level. We also got to see our favorite family band, the Housleys, play amazing music during the worship services. June 11th was our 1st anniversary. We spent the week before traveling from Flagstaff, to Sedona, to Phoenix and seeing some of the most amazing sites we've ever seen. This was Ben's first time out west. He'd never seen the Grand Canyon, and his reaction when he did was priceless. I love doing new things with him! We had m

TESTIMONIES OF THANKFULNESS

It's been a busy weekend, ya'll. Saturday we were invited to serve with Ben's cousin, Jason, and his new church plant. We passed out flyers and door hangers concerning their Easter service. All were invited to come, with no regard to the "right" church clothes. It's important to meet people where they are, and let's just face it, some don't have the "right" church clothes. We should be more concerned with sharing the good news than with sharing our fickle opinions of others. It truly was a great way to help our sister church in their time of need. If only I had not been sick as a dog... Two hours in, I was down for the count. I couldn't even hold my head up. The sinus sickness hit me like a train. After a two hour wait in the doctor's office, I got two shots and was sent on my way. After almost passing out in the lobby, having only eaten a bowl of cereal that morning at 9:00, we went home to rest. And eat pizza. Sundays are al

BASEBALL AND BOWS

It's been over a week since my last post, to my shame. I seem to have left my precedence for posting back in Spring Break. A lot has happened over the past week. I'll just share a few of my favorite moments. March 24, 2017 Last weekend, I was able to spend time with my college bestie and sorority sister, Ashley. She came all the way from Tuscaloosa to spend the weekend with us! She's so much fun to be around. She's a loud, opinionated, caring people-person. My polar opposite, but that's what makes us so close. We can talk and laugh about life's circumstances or simply sit in silence for hours and be completely comfortable either way. I love her spunk and love for life and people. We were able to go see Ben's little brother, Thomas, play in his first baseball game of the season. I love watching Thomas play! Being the older sibling of one sister, I never got the privilege of having a brother. Marrying into the Curlee family has given me two brot

SWEET MEMORY LANE

Image
What a special day! Yesterday, I got to spend the whole afternoon with one of my very best friends. My sister and I have always had a special bond. Growing up, we argued and fought just like most siblings, but we were still so close. I was worried that bond would fade away once we both became adults. I've seen it happen so often, even within my own family. But honestly, we've become even closer in our later years. I know I have a forever friend I can always count on in Jill. Jumping on a trampoline doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would flood your mind with memories, but that is exactly what it did. We reminisced on the good times we had in our backyard 10+ years ago on Sundown Pass. We played so many crazy, made-up games (Dead Man, Races, Crack the Egg) on that trampoline. It's a wonder we didn't fall off and break our necks. We laughed and talked about how big the trampoline used to feel to us and how we're like giants now.  The sw

ALL OF HEAVEN WILL BE THERE

Today I had the privilege of preaching in my grandmother's funeral. To be honest with you, my mind is tired. We knew late last week that MawMaw was getting close to the end of her time on earth. The weekend was filled with a shower for Seth and Stephanie (they are getting married in May), preaching on Sunday, and nearly-constant thoughts about an impending funeral.  Monday brought the news we expected- Katye Jo was likely heading home. Shelby and I cut our day short and headed to RMC. Thankfully, we were there most of the afternoon. We had just left and picked up Thomas from school when MawMaw went to glory. She died at 3:24 PM Monday afternoon.  As much as I wanted to be there, I'm thankful that we were able to go get T. Dad and Mom were able to be with MawMaw in those last few moments. What sweet moments they were! All four of her children gathered around her bed and sang her favorite hymn- "In the Garden." As their voices sang the last notes of that ol

NO CAVITIES

Image
After "Spring Breaking" all day, and by that I mean, watching Fixer Upper and eating corn dogs on the couch, Ben and I took a trip to our new dentist, Dr. Picard. Now, I've been going to the same dentist since I had teeth. Shout out to Dr. Cunningham in Jacksonville. I highly recommend him if you live in the J'ville or Anniston area. But living in Talladega County, we had to find a local dentist. I must admit, I was nervous about the report that would come. I had been told before my wisdom teeth were removed that I had cavities in both of my back molars. After my cleaning and visit with the doc, I received a great report with those two words all dental patients want to hear: no cavities ! Upon leaving the office, with Ben boasting about his "healthy mouth" and I about my teeth being in "pristine condition," we proceeded on to the ice cream parlor to celebrate our lack of cavities with mouths full of frozen sugar. Happy Tuesday!

AND HE WALKS WITH ME

Death isn't something that I've been well acquainted with in my lifetime. I know I'm blessed to be able to say that. Our earthly bodies are shells in which we simply inhabit this place for a short time. Today, March 20, at approximately 3:24 pm, my sweet husband's grandmother went to be with the Lord.  After many months of sickness, she is finally able to breathe easily in the presence of the God of the Ages. It's our human nature to be saddened by events such as this, but we should rejoice in the assurance of salvation we have through Jesus.  What a beautiful final moment Mawmaw's four children were able to have with her before she left this earth, singing one of her favorite hymns. But be assured, my friends, Mawmaw is looking at something even more beautiful today, the face of our Heavenly Father.  We love you, Mawmaw.

FIRST BLOG POST

Well, it's finally happened, people. We started a blog. This should be fun! I'm not always great at expressing myself with spoken words. As I often say, I'm really bad at telling stories. I hope you enjoy following along with Ben and me. We have a crazy, hectic, beautiful life.
